So what are keywords?

Keywords are ideas and topics that define what your content is about.

For example, if you are in the business of selling financial software solutions to small and medium businesses, then your keywords may be

“financial software”
“enterprise financial solutions”
“financial software for small businesses”
“accounting software for small companies”

When shortlisting keywords, you may want to consider:

Search volume: How many people are searching for the keyword. The more popular the keyword, the larger the audience you will be able to reach
Relevance: Volume is important, but relevance even more so. Look for keywords that are most likely to be used by your target audience in searching for solutions to their queries.
Competition: Is your chosen keyword very popular? Chances are that your competition might be using them too.

Two key concepts that we will discuss today are keyword stuffing and keyword density

Keyword density = Number of times a phrase is mentioned / total number of words on the page

Most experts now consider an ideal keyword density a myth. But more on that later!

But like most cases, too much of a good thing is bad, and the same holds true for keywords as well.

Keyword stuffing refers to the practice of loading a webpage with keywords or numbers in an attempt to manipulate a site's ranking in Google search results.

This entire process – that is  identifying popular words and phrases people enter into search engines – make in an attempt to figure out what to rank for is called keyword research and is one of the most important SEO tasks.

So, where do you get these keywords?

Imagine you are about to start a marketing campaign for your newly launched product - a range of handcrafted custom designed eco-friendly bags.

You want to draw up a list of keywords.

So either you can start manually, but that process is time-consuming.

Or you can choose tools like Google Keyword Planner, Moz Keyword Explorer, Wordstream, SEM rush.
